The Milky Way

The Milky Way

A brief two-hour window of clear sky allowed us to capture this detailed image of the home galaxy. It is hard to imagine the relative distances and the number of suns included in this striking panorama. Milky Way details normally seen visually, are all but obscured by dark tentacles of cosmic dust running along the broad galactic equator. Digital enhancement brings out the colorful hydrogen emission nebulae (red areas) and blue reflection nebulae scattered among rich fields of stars.
